Once, while in line for immigration check, the person before
me has some kind of trouble. I was impatiently counting the seconds, a bit nervous because I
am running late at that time. The yellow
line indicates I must stand before it while the person before me show her
passport. The immigration officer pointed to a corner. I wonder what is it
about? Are they chatting about something nice to go visit? The person before me
looks young, early 20’s and petite. She has long hair and wearing jeans with a
top fittingly make her look real skinny. Then the officer pointed to her passport
and to the copy of what seem like an e-ticket and again pointed to a corner of
the building. This is the part she cannot understand, the passenger stood
still, not knowing what to do.
What’s going on there? I keep thinking…
After a mere 2 minutes, it seems, I raise my hand to offer
help. The immigration officer nod his head and so I took a few steps forward so
I can hear and help. The immigration officer asks her about name on her
passport do not match with the passenger name on the ticket. It was misspelled.
She tried to respond but her vocabulary is so limited the immigration officer
cannot understand. The immigration officer explained that the name on her
passport must match the passenger name written on her ticket and must go to the
immigration office that is located in the right side corner of the building to
have it corrected. I explained to her what happened and told her where to go. At
first, she was hesitant because she doesn’t speak the language and asks if I can
assist her. I declined to assist her because I was already running to my flight.
I wish I can but it was the wrong time and wish her good luck.
Not a big deal but for the immigration officer, name must be
identical from passport to e- ticket. Situations like this is something we want
to avoid. Proper documentation is very important.
