A Taste of Melbourne, Australia

Quick Visit of Melbourne, Australia

On a trip to Australia for 10 days, it was enough time to visit two place - Sydney and Melbourne. It is so amusing to think that Melbourne is known compared to Victoria. I hear so many people talk about Melbourne but not much about Victoria yet Melbourne is the capital of victoria. She shared some amazing images and it's good to share it to the whole world, right? I was excited to hear her experience as I have not been to Melbourne but have stayed in Sydney for three months.

The day tour went well as planned, hitting Gold Museum and Sovereign Hills Museum.  The day started an early rise in the morning, leaving in short time to see Ballarat, a city located on the Yarrowee River and lower western plains of the Great Dividing Range in the state of Victoria, Australia. It is believe to be around 105 kilometers or 65 miles, west-north-west of the state capital; Melbourne. It has a population of  between 80-90,000 or more and is the state's most populated inland settlement; fifth most populated inland settlement in Australia. Locals are referred as Ballaratians.

This  first trip  is going to be exciting! You know when it is your first, there is so much to discover, ask about, not knowing what to expect. It may be amazing or it could be a disaster , will find out.  It is good to have an idea where we are going that way we don’t feel like an idiot and ask nonsense questions. But it is still possible to ask nonsense just for the laughs. The night before, doing an online research to check it out and learn a bit information regarding Ballarat would be a good thing to do or maybe just go and wait to see. There is so much history in this place. It was populated by Wathaurong people before to the European settlement. The Wathaurong people were the Indigenous Australian people and it was in the early 1850’s when Thomas Hiscock discovered gold. The discovery leads to people from other places, hoping to have a cut of precious metals, too. Who would not leave a life with no gold when you can find it somewhere else? As word of mouth spreads regarding the discovery of gold; a new era of immigrants begin to establish in Ballarta. This is a normal thing to happen when people are searching for greener pasture. What a beautiful history!
Read more about Melbourne with Lonely Planet Pocket Melbourne (Pocket Guide) to prepare your next trip to Melbourne.

Our tour started from the mine. The mine is being preserved for tourists; exactly the same as it was when the mine was still in business and as a reminder of what happened.

A typical bar of the early time inside the hotel, we enjoyed the following on our tour :
Interiors of the hotel
Single room, room for four in 4 single beds
The freemason’s room
The mine
Customed policemen patrols - the village in black
Goldsmithing, where gold panning was done in the past. Visitors are allowed to do the same if only to experience how it was to look for gold.<
Main St.
Chinese quarters
Interior of the Chinese quarter
The Cathedral of the Catholic Church in Ballarat and the city center
A view of Ballarat from the Gold Museum
Real gold on display inside the museum
Largest single piece of gold discovery
There's one that has the shape of the country of England The Sovereign Hill Village's Main Street

Afterwards, next stop is the Melbourne Zoo!  The excitement of seeing all these wonderful creatures:
Cockatoos
Peccarees
Roos
Emus
Turtles n ducks
The wombat came out of his underground place and he’s looking for a companion.
Green cockatoos, green of course and good at camouflage
Otters are so adorable
Bamboos, tall and pliant!
Lion, staring at tourists.
Tree top ape, bragging with his fists!
Lemur
Pygmy Hippoptamus are so huge!
Orang utan, gently looking at his brother.
Koalas
Coatis
Cotton top tamarin
Peacock, spreading their beautiful feathers.
The mere cat curious to met all
Indigenous fauna
Seal
Australian penguin
Pelicans

Two places on a day is enough and a time to relax in a cozy place with food. Food always comes next to travel, feet are tired so rest is best! I love Australia and would like to go back again.
