Question by Rachael.
Mom is traveling to Tuscany and Amafi in October and wants to know what to pack. Warm clothes or something fit for chilly days? I know weather can be in the 70s during the day but that can feel different based on humidity level. Will it be too chilly for knee length sundresses even with a cardigan or too hot for jeans?
Packing before travel can be overwhelming because of unpredictable weather changes.
Last year in Italy, it was in the 80s in October. I didn’t even get to wear my jackets so it's a good idea to pack clothing you can use for layering. It's the best advice is my straight answer.
At night it wasn’t bad. We wear sweaters and layers. I honestly can tell you it was downright hot but that really depends on how cold is cold for you..
I’m going back in 3 weeks as well and will just buy something if I get too cold for peace of mind. Some people get cold easily. If you are a traveler who gets cold easily when it is not cold for others, you may have to consider packing one or two sweaters. It was not “cold” and someone who is cold all the time when it’s below 60 better bring some layers to keep warm. That way, when it feels warm, you can take some layers off to make you feel comfortable.
Right now in September, it's showing the low is 45 today in Tuscany. But of course it could just be a cold spell.
For someone who’s been there
in November and December many times and yet have been sweating, can be confusingfor you to even think. The Italians are dressed like it's winter in Alaska and you'll be waring shorts because it's hor! Here's a spoiler alert for you. Italians dress for the season, not the temps. So, if I'll be in Italy in early October and if I'm cold, I'll buy warm clothes there as I will not pack heavy clothes! Feel like a traveler and be like a traveler, go shopping in foreign land. Make the most memorable moments of your vacation trip. You heard that saying when you're in Rome, be a Roman? If you'll be in Italy then be an Italian dress for the season not the temps if you can take it. If not, don't worry about what to pack, shopping is the answer.
The shopping is so good. You feel like a real traveler at the same time like local.
If you'll be in Sorrento, you'll definitely need to pack your light clothes for the south!
If doing a trip to Ischia, Florence, Portovenere and Parma, it will probably be warm. Checking the weather now in September, it is in the 80’s. I would suggest layers. A lightweight jacket in the evenings would be good.
2 years ago I was in Rome in November and had to buy T-shirts at Zara it was so warm!
The best advise when traveling:
Pack clothing for warm and cool weather and you can add a layer when its chilly or take off some layers when it's hot. No carry on only for me 😆
